Wetaskiwin Air Show: Full Throttle despite losing CF-18 Hornet from lineup.

While the Canadian Forces has cancelled the appearance of the CF-18 Demonstration Team at the Wetaskiwin Air Show, August 6-7, the show will still go on with an action-packed line-up including the Canadian Forces Snowbirds, SkyHawks, a P-51 Mustang and several other awardwinning performers. Since the crash of the CF-18 Hornet demo jet during a practice session for the Alberta International Airshow in Lethbridge, Alta. on 23 July, the remainder of the team's 2010 air show schedule remains to be determined. Despite the fact that a back-up jet is available, the Demonstration Team does not have a back-up pilot to perform the show routine. Wetaskiwin Air Show Organizers are grateful that Captain Bews ejected safely and the debris field was minimal – proving that the high safety standards in place for Canadian Air Shows were effective in ensuring that no one was harmed. Aviation events in North America, including the Wetaskiwin Air Show, are highly regulated through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) or Transport Canada (TC) to ensure that the safety of Air Show spectators and participants is to the highest standard. It’s sky-high fun for everyone - don’t miss out on this family-friendly summer event that is sure to inspire all ages! Take in the amazing aerobatic pursuits in the skies, eat some mini-donuts, and enjoy the activities on the ground. Gates open at 10 am each day at Reynolds-Alberta Museum with lots to see and do inside the Museum and outside on the site. The Air Show will commence mid-day with an impressive list of performers – including the addition of “Super” Dave Mathieson in his modified Pitts Special biplane. Take advantage of huge cost savings and avoid lineups by getting your tickets before August 2! General Admission youth (advance) tickets for ages 6-17 are $5, adult (advance) tickets are $15. Two-day Passes are available in advance only and are $8 for Youth, and $25 for Adults. Additional seating areas are available, including licensed and catered chalet areas. Ticket prices increase at midnight on August 2.
