Premier's Award of Excellence
Wetaskiwin Air Show
July 27 & 28, 2008
On October 7th, 2009, the planning committee for the 2008 Wetaskiwin Air Show was awarded a silver Premier's Award of Excellence, from the Province of Alberta, for the planning of the two-day event at the Reynolds-Alberta Museum, that attracted more than 50,000 people to Wetaskiwin.
The award marks business excellence between government and non-governmental agencies. The air show was a partnership between the City of Wetaskiwin and the museum and featured the Canadian Forces Snowbirds and 11 other in-air-performances. The air show offered families a safe, informative, entertaining, and memorable experience. The museum showcased its vintage aviation collection and the City of Wetaskiwin was host to a first-class family entertainment event and showcased the community to our visitors.
The planning committee consisted of members from the City of Wetaskiwin, Reynolds-Alberta Museum, Friends of Reynolds-Alberta Museum, Canada's Aviation Hall of Fame and local contractors. The event involved service clubs, businesses, emergency response organizations, corporate sponsors, and municipal and county governments. The event exceeded its forecasted revenues, met its $207,000 budget and left the planning team with a $67,000 surplus to be used as seed funding for future shows.
